Ms Helen Shaw - Eastern Sydney

Case Study

Helen Shaw, primary teacher for choir & music in Sydney's East.

My name is Helen Shaw, and I teach music at Saint Aidans, Maroubra. I’ve been running a choir for 10 to 15 years and now work across two schools.

Music is an integral part of life—and education. It’s part of the curriculum, but fitting everything in is a challenge due to time constraints and a lack of expertise.

Kids respond to technology—they love it. With quality online resources, they have a sense of control over their learning and access to engaging, well-structured materials. This makes all the difference, not just in music but across their whole learning experience.

Finding reliable music resources is a struggle. I’ve relied on YouTube for my choir and music lessons, but the ads and inconsistent quality can be frustrating. What we really need are expert-created resources that are high-quality and ready to use.

That’s why Learning For Good is so valuable. It provides an accessible platform no matter where you are—city, country, plenty of funding, or very little. If you’ve got access to great resources, it can be life-changing.

One of my biggest challenges is finding choir resources. The kids love contemporary music, but they also enjoy choral pieces. However, getting support in the choir space is difficult—it’s competitive, and as a choir director, it can feel isolating. Having high-quality, accessible choir resources would make a huge difference.

Teachers are crying out for good music resources—something engaging, effective, and easy to use in the limited time we have. Platforms like Learning For Good help fill that gap, giving teachers what they need to create meaningful music experiences for students.

Quality resources are essential to a quality education. Teachers are crying out for engaging, effective music resources that fit into the limited time we have. - Helen Shaw
