Richard Gill School Muswellbrook

Case Study

From playing in the Sydney Youth Orchestras to teaching in rural Muswellbrook.

As a high school student, I played the viola for the Sydney Youth Orchestras. These wonderful experiences with the SYO cemented my passion for orchestral music, and helped me appreciate the quality and professional standard of the music resources provided through Learning For Good.

After completing my bachelor’s degree in primary education, I upskilled to be able to teach music to all ages at our school. Currently our year 3 and year 4 students are learning the violin and the cello using the SYO online resources. The depth of learning that the children gain access to is outstanding.

During class, I simply login to the portal and access the videos to facilitate in class or small groups. I also use the printable worksheets to practice labelling instrument parts and other activities.

We really enjoy being able to play along with music. It has been so exciting to learn from these resources. Junkyard Beats is also a favourite – they’re so much fun and bring a lively feeling to the classroom.

Our geographical disadvantage feels greatly reduced when we have access to these resources.

We can really see that children in rural areas or more diverse areas can also access these resources. It opens up a new world of opportunities. It's such a fabulous way to give them a real example and a pathway of what they can learn and what they may aspire to be.
